Policy
Sustainability policy
Carbon Legal is an independent reference on SECR, ESOS, UK SRS and carbon consultancy, published by Fractional Quest Ltd.
This policy sets out what we actually do about our own footprint, how we report, and the claims we will not make.
Footprint
Our footprint
Everything we do happens online, so our direct footprint is small: the servers that host this site and the laptops we build it on.
We have no premises of our own to heat, light or fill.
Actions
What we do about it
- We keep pages light — fewer heavy scripts and media files mean less energy per visit.
- We meet online by default and travel only when meeting in person genuinely matters.
- Where we have a choice of supplier, we prefer those that publish their own emissions data.
- We review this policy once a year, and when anything material about how we work changes.
Reporting
How we report
We are well below the size at which SECR applies, and the UK Sustainability Reporting Standards are voluntary for everyone.
We still use the UK Sustainability Reporting Standards as our reference for how a company should think about climate-related risks and emissions, so the habits are in place long before any obligation is.
Claims
What we will not claim
We will not make an environmental claim we cannot evidence.
The ASA’s guidance on carbon neutral claims reaches marketing as much as reporting, and sustainability in go-to-market explains why vague words like “eco-friendly” are the ones that get challenged.
We do not describe ourselves as carbon neutral or net zero.
Ownership
Who owns this
The director of Fractional Quest Ltd owns this policy.
When we need specialist input we bring it in part-time for a defined piece of work — someone found through a fractional recruitment agency — rather than hiring full-time for a need that is part-time.
